Entrance-to-Major Requirements

Transfer Students - Summer 2020 or Later

Applicants who have attempted or completed 18 or more credits but no more than 2 full-time academic semesters at another college or university after high school graduation may apply for transfer admission to pre-major status in the College of Engineering (ENGR_PMAJ). A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 and at least 4 credits of college calculus, completed with a C or better, are required for consideration.

The following Entrance-to-Major (ETM) process applies to transfer students who attended an institution prior to enrolling at Penn State in summer 2020 or later and is contingent on being accepted to the College of Engineering.

Step 1: Complete 12-25 cumulative credits at Penn State

You are eligible to apply for entry to a College of Engineering major as transfer student once you have completed 12 cumulative credits at Penn State. You must request your major change before you have completed more than 25 cumulative credits at Penn State. Students requesting non-enrollment-controlled majors may request consideration for an extension.

Step 2: Check your cumulative GPA

At the time you apply for ETM, your cumulative GPA must be at or above the published minimum GPA for the major.

Step 3: Ensure you have scheduled or completed required ETM courses

At the time you apply, you must be scheduled for or have completed, with a C or better, select ETM courses specific to your major.

Step 4: Apply for a major

Send an email to assistdeanrecords@engr.psu.edu from your Penn State email account. Include your full name, student id, and a note requesting your intended major.

If at any time you have questions about how your schedule or performance will impact your eligibility to qualify for a College of Engineering major, be sure to contact an appropriate academic adviser.
