Academic Advising

In order to provide the best academic support possible, you should meet with their academic adviser at least once per semester. For more information on how to get advising assistance, choose from the categories below.

Pre-Major Students

The Engineering Advising Center (EAC) primarily serves as the academic advising resources for students in pre-major status at University Park.

To request an appointment with an advisor, you may schedule an appointment online using Starfish, call our office at 814-863-1033, or walk into 208 Hammond for an appointment.

In-Major Students

Upon successful completion of entrance-to-major requirements and acceptance into a major, students will be assigned a faculty adviser. The name and contact information for your in-major adviser is in LionPath and Starfish. You should reach out to your advisor via email or contact your department for assistance.

Transfer Students (from other universities)

To request an appointment with an adviser while in pre-major status, you may schedule using Starfish, call our office at 814-863-1033, or walk into 208 Hammond for an appointment.

Commonwealth Campus Students

If you are at a Penn State Commonwealth Campus, you should meet regularly with your adviser at your campus location. You can, if necessary, set up a phone appointment with an adviser at University Park by calling 814-863-1033.

Millennium Scholars Students

Millennium Scholars will be assigned an academic adviser from the EAC. To request an appointment, you may schedule online using Starfish, call our office at 814-863-1033, or walk into 208 Hammond.

The Millennium Scholar program director also meets regularly with students to discuss academic progress or any other issues.

Schreyer Scholars

Scholars at the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State who wish to be advised by a faculty member in their engineering major are assigned an adviser in their home department.

Dr. Christine Masters, assistant dean for academic support and global programs, is the faculty adviser for Schreyer Scholars who have not yet chosen an engineering major. To request an appointment with Dr. Masters, please call 814-863-1033.

Schreyer Scholars who wish to change the department from which they receive academic advising must notify the Engineering Advising Center of their new major or interest. The new department will be notified by the EAC and asked to reassign the scholar to a Schreyer Scholars adviser in their new department.
